i dropped my kids at school like a normal monday morning but shortly after that
i boarded a plane to Atlanta to the headquarters of Coca-Cola for a Social Media Conference.
wait....back it up....beep beep beep....(costanza)
first a car with a driver PICKED ME UP to take me to the airport.
not a taxi.
a car with a driver...like Oprah has!
yeah...that doesn't happen around here.
at least not to this mama.
my husband asked me "did you talk to him?" (or did i work on something....call someone...sleep)
i said "of course i did....it's ME!"
we talked about car accidents...the entire drive.
HA.
on the plane i think i was the only one to get two seats to myself.
i was feeling really happy.
then i arrived in atlanta and the first thing i did was text my friend and say "i'm nervous"
she said "you will be great. smile and be sure to talk to the woman sitting next to you."
(we have this thing about women never talking to each other at group events...it's ridiculous what women do!)
i texted back "i WILL! i will talk to everyone! i am going to be like Pam in Africa!"
:)
she talked to everyone...everywhere.
and i loved it.
so here i am...states away from home.
i did not know a single person.
i was completely alone.
i think it may be the first time my life i have traveled that way.
as in...i had to be in charge of not losing my room key...no one else to be more organized.
i had to ask for a wake up call...no one else to set an alarm.
i was all by myself.
that never ever happens.
we had two full days of very down to earth women speaking to us about all kinds of topics from
women in corporate worlds to marketing for coke to recycling to our personal goals for 2011.
it was very....cool.
there were 15 bloggers that were invited to come.
and i was one of them?
what in the world is going on?
needless to say....i was completely intimidated and insecure.
i was fighting it every minute.
seriously.
i kept saying to myself (and texting it) "i don't know why they would want ME. WHY?!"
but...i was having a blast.
here is our group.
we were quite diverse in many ways.
i will share links another time.
a few things i learned....
coca-cola has a Water Project in Africa....30 million dollars strong.
that is a good start.
it's not enough though....but a great start.
coca-cola makes hundreds of products...not just soda.
that was interesting.
coca-cola has a huge female corporate influence.
women are ROCKING that company.
awesome.
but my favorite thing i learned at this social media conference all the way in georgia...986 miles from home...
had nothing to do with COKE.
and i will tell you all about it tomorrow.
it's 1:31 AM.
i have to get my sleep.
stay tuned.....
